A first statistical brief on the National Agricultural Research Systems (NARS) of Mauritius was prepared in 1995 by the former International Service for National Agricultural Research (ISNAR), based in Holland, following a survey it carried out in the early 1990’s.
That was followed by a second survey undertaken by the ISNAR and the IFPRI (International Food Policy Research Institute), called the ASTI (Agricultural Science & Technology Indicators) during the year 2002, which covered the whole of sub-Sahara Africa.
Such studies were undertaken internationally with the collaboration of national partners which are usually one of the principal agricultural R&D agencies that contribute in survey implementation and preparation of a joint country report.
The FARC contributed to the 2002/3 study as national partner and disseminated the ensuing Mauritius ASTI brief (2003) widely to all stakeholders.
A similar second study has recently been undertaken, again on the same partnership, during period March 2009 to July 2010, with the production of:
(i) a new ASTI brief (2010) for Mauritius
(iii) An ASTI Directory for Mauritius
